  • Must be dependent on the sponsor financially (i.e. for everyday living or due to disability that prevents the applicant from working)
  • Must have no partner
  • Must have an assurance of support
  • Must meet health and character requirements
  • Must have repaid all debts to the Australian Government (or made arrangements for these payments to the Australian Government)

The Department of Home Affairs will also consider whether the applicant has ever had a previous visa cancelled.

The following eligibility criteria apply to the sponsor:

  • Must hold Australian citizenship, permanent residency or be an eligible New Zealand Citizen
  • Must agree to provide financial support to the applicant for the first two years the applicant lives in Australia
